I headed out for my walk this morning wearing a pale yellow sweatshirt, frayed and loose around the neck, with one shoulder partially exposed,\u00a0Flashdance\u00a0style. My\u00a0skin was cool\u00a0and the air was quiet when\u00a0I\u00a0left my house. I felt footloose and fancy free. Taking a route different from my normal routine, I trekked up\u00a0one hill then down another to reach\u00a0the water. As I approached Long Island Sound the wind whipped up and I\u00a0saw tiny white caps.<\/p>\n
My morning of life\/work balance\u00a0was already pleasantly euphoric. My sneakers beat a steady rhythm on the asphalt and I thought back to art school. A college professor\u00a0taught all the students in my Design class to turn every artwork around, to view it from all sides. This way the artist can see and change the composition from every angle. What I learned is that when I changed something from one perspective, it changed\u00a0the whole piece. The finished artwork\u00a0was completed\u00a0by drawing a line\u00a0or changing a shape that I never\u00a0would have considered if I had not viewed it upside down or backwards.<\/p>\n
Today, the surprise of seeing white caps on a\u00a0day that started out calm and simultaneously feeling exhilarated by the increasing winds put me in a place of deeper gratitude.<\/p>\n
