Last Monday night I saw a fabulous Native American Storyteller. Tchin<\/a>\u00a0was mesmerizing\u00a0and engaging. His sonorous voice, coupled\u00a0with his graceful dramatic\u00a0flair only deepened\u00a0the quality of his performance. During his program I\u00a0heard that stories are really “lessons” and that “words are sacred.” Tchin\u00a0played a variety of traditional flutes\u00a0and I learned that the flute pre-dates the drum. I was transported\u00a0by the sound and quality of his music to a place of inner connection, as if I had just come out of a long meditation.<\/p>\n

Tchin’s\u00a0program was filled with Narragansett and Blackfoot traditions and humor. He is living proof that you can be an artist, educator, musician, flutemaker, folklorist, entertainer, clothes maker, jewelry designer\u00a0and be nationally known and award-winning.\u00a0Tchin\u00a0demonstrates for people of all ages that you don’t have to live inside the box of how other people may\u00a0label you. You can be all that you are and show it.<\/p>\n
